Ankara, for visitors, will never be as attractive as Istanbul. Though two very interesting museums (the Ethnographic and Anatolian Civilizations Museums) and a visit to the Anitkabir (Mausoleum of Atarurk, Founder of the modern Turkish Republic will retain you one or two days.
History
Brief history of modern Ankara : Formerly known as Angora, Ankara had been a small provincial city lost in the middle of the steppelands until in 1923 it was declared the capital of the Turkish Republic. Today Ankara is a modern metropolis which has grown around the original village.
